the 9.5s will be pushing the limits, will have to use one of them belt do-hickeys to get the beads to seat. Might want to look at the tire on the rim before you commit to that kind of setup, might look a bit dorkey.
Good evening to everybody, I bought my 520i M50 1992 with Racing Dynamics 8 1/2" 235/45/17 front, and 9 1/2" 255/45/17 rear, the tyres where too big for 150hp,the car was slower, and had no good accelaration, so I put on the original 205/60/15. Can I put 225 or 215 on my 8 1/2" and 9 1/2" wheels?

Arxon, I'm with Jeff... You'll probably have a really messed up sidewall, looks-wise. I don't know how it would perform but you'd sure hate to have the tire work off the bead while you're cornering... *EEK*
Cheers,
Duey
rim screws to hold it on?

It WILL work, VWs do it all the time, the bead won't break and the tire won't fall off, but when you stretch sidewall you lower the profile, so a 225/45 will be more like a 225/40 when the sidewalls are like:
