    Microfilter:
According to my knowledge from built year 06/1990. At least that is shown on the official instruction manual how to replace it or often on the replacement packages.

Sorry Pat, you don't have to worry about the micro-filter, or the steering wheel changing positions on the '89 535. The '89 didn't come with wood trim in the interior either. Did you get an owners manual with your car?

Unfortunatly no I did not get a owners manual, that is why I was wondering. I wonder why they made a non-adjustable steering wheel. My 83 528e adjusts. Oh well not a big deal, just a little annoying sometimes. Thanks for the help though, I appreicate it.

In digging around on the forums, I found mention of people adjusting their nonadjustable steering columns by changing the bolts that support it and adding a bunch of washers.

I did it, and it helps. Just make sure you're the only one driving the car...I'm sure some fat people would get stuck between my steering wheel and the seat

...it has a wide range of movement...all I do is push & hold the lever in whichever direction needed and it moves on its own (see attached pic). (okay, I'm just teasing those who don't have the power adjust feature...that's mean, ain't it! )

My UK 535 was first sold in January '90, but made (according to VIN) in 11/89, and it has a manually adjustable steering column (clamp lever on lower side of column cowling) that moves in and out by around 100mm I would guess.

    I don't however have a microfilter (as far as I know !!!).

I like the power adjusted steering wheel, my 540's got it. I wish the tilt were adjustable though.. I've been spoiled by the wheel on my saab

    Default check the area anyway.

even if your e34 didn't come with a M/F, there may still be the slot to fit one in. of course it is narrow and a PITA job.

A good reason to open it up - is that leaves and other junk can collect in that space and clog up the evaporator.
