There are even 2 different designs with different length to match the thickness of the mats.
So if you do not have that, no wonder that they slip.

well, i assume that factory bmw mats came with my 93 525i....the drivers mat does say BMW on it...
but, why do the rear mats cover up the vents? what the heck!!!! i mean come on, the things the rear passengers need the most in the winter is heat and floor mats (well atleast for my sake they need floor mats).
agh...i guess i can buy some smaller ones

I don't think you have the correct mats in the back. I also have a 93 525i and mine fit okay.
hmmm... it's possible, they came with the car when i bought it used....

looks like you're right!!
the mats being the wrong ones would explain the the rear vents and that little cut out on the left side of the front passenger's mat.
