Thread: M50 Front Crankshaft Oilseal

    Default M50 Front Crankshaft Oilseal

I have a 1992 525i fitted with the M50 engine. Oil drips from up behind the crankshaft pulley so I am assuming the front oilseal needs replacing. Is this a straightforward job? If so a summary of the process would be much appreciated.

you may want to clean the front of the motor well and make sure it's the crank seal that's leaking, i may of seen one leaking m50/52 front seal over the years but have encountered dozens of leaking oil filter housing to block gaskets (which is close to the front of the motor)

Thanks Winfred. Is the oil filter housing gasket an easy fix?
