1991 535i - tail light warning

A very basic question - thank you for tolerating me:

My left tail light (looks like just the yellow strip) does not come on when the lights are turned on, and the warning comes up on the dash.

I assume that the bulb is dead. How can I get it out:? Do I just reach my hand in there and yank on the rectangular plastic thing that I can see and feel through the trunk?

I will give it a try.
I hope that it is just the bulb.

BTW is this bulb easy to come by...or do I need to go to a dealer or BMA?

those things suck, I'm just glad I got both of mine to work again. seems to always mess up when out of town in the rain or something.
