89 US 525i, Check Control Indication

Hi all. Any common reasons/remedies for check control warning that flashes whenever I start my baby? Check control indication still appears, though I have changed battery, had a mechanic (non-dealer) check the electricals. He says I may have to go to the dealer to hook up the car to diagnostics. Btw, had noticed drag in cranking when car unused for more than a day. Battery salesman says the old battery was OK, just a year old, but had it changed anyway. What if I remove the fuses and relays one by one and clean them and their seats with contact cleaner? How can you check if there is a ground somewhere? Thanks!

If you remove the check control computer, i believe the dash will say check control....perhaps its loose or faulty...
