low speed thump thump

at low speeds (school zones), i get a nice quiet but perfectly regular thumpthumpthumpthumpthump.. if i'm decellerating i don't seem to hear it, and with any cabin noise or at speed it's drowned out. any ideas? it sounds the way my old car did when the FWD CV joints went. It seems to occur regardless of steeringwheel position though.

might want to have your tires inspected, could be a bad band or something. After you have that ruled out go farther.
