Default New Enthusiast Here.... New Addition to the Garage....

Hi all. I just came across this site in my quest to quench my thirst for a BMW that was brought on by a good friend of mine.... I'm looking at a couple 1998 328i models this next weekend (and maybe a Z3 or two), all right around 40,000 miles, and looking pretty clean. My question is, are there any known issues as far as reliability, parts replacement schedules, and general upkeep are concerned? ...both as an individual 328 and vs. the Z3. I've been looking to pick up a newer sporty, fun car, that can also be driven somewhat regularly to compliment my current collection of a '96 Tacoma and '67 Chevelle SS.

Thanks a bunch, and I'm sure it will be great meeting you all!

The 328 is a great car. overpriced but great. Problem areas I would say:
    - vanos
    - control arm
    - control arm bushing
    - ignition coils
    - rear subframe bushing tearing out the car.

Not a lot of problem really. The 2.8 is the engine I am developping for my race car. I am hoping 240 HP

the 98's have all the bugs pretty much worked out... the vanos is good on my 97... the only advice that i will give you is get a manual trans... i wish i had taken my own advice... bmw's aren't made for auto trans's you will like the 328...
