One of the blades on my engine fan is broken. I have a replacement but how do I get the thing off? I took off the 4 bolts but the disc it's attached to won't come off the engine. It's an 83 528e. Thanks for any help.

Does anyone know whether those cars had a fan clutch? if so, you have to take the fan clutch off and the fan comes with it, then remove the clutch unit.
Hopefully someone here will know this...
Oh yes they did, BMW likes the fan clutch idea.

Probably that reverse thread 32mm nut, sometimes a few good wacks will loosen it up. If you have the belt off you'll need to find some way to hold the spindle steady while turning that big nut. Remember, "righty loosey" this time, due to reverse threads.
Good luck.
