CD Changer Ready?

I have a 1992 525i, it has the factory AM/FM Cassette. In the trunk, a badge indicates that it is wired for a CD. Does a CD Changer adapt to the current head unit, or do I need to replace the head unit?

then it should work fine.
I have the same head unit with a BMW changer. I was told that the changer is really a Pioneer CDX-M30.
