Default 91 M5 remote key help

I have a 1991 E34 M5 3.6. Its remote control has integrated with key on one box. And it has one button on front side and one button on left side. Push the front side button up part is lock, push button down part is unlock, push left side button is support double-lock. Few days ago, my battery dead, I use the unlock procedure to open the door. After that, I found my remote control is not work from this time on. I carry the remote control to BMW authorized dealer for help. They told me they never see this type remote control. And I try to use Bruno's reprogram, but it's not support my remote control. Has anyone can help me to solve the problem or give me an advice? Thank you.

You might have to manually re-syncronize your locks. Check this part of Bruno's site...http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/trouble/Locked.htm

    Hope this helps.

    Hi
Does anybody know where I can get a replacement remote & key as described above?
The Australian E34's have an infrared fob (it's clearly IR becasue it won't work if it's not in line of sight with the sensor next to the sunroof button in the car).
Mine has broken and I don't want to pay the dealer $300 for a new one...
    Thank you

Default sounds like the "switchblade" remote IR (infrared) not RF (radio frequency)

Is this what it looks like (see pic below). If so this is the switchblade remote which uses IR (infrared) technology. I think they require 4 batteries...so open it and check real close.

If you have an owners manual...the programming procedure is in the front of the manual. The programming sequence requires you to press & hold either the lock or unlock button over the red LED light on the dash until it flashes. (I'll have to go find the prog procedures on one of the e32 or e34 message boards....so hold on).

The remote is the item in the upper right of the pic...the key stub gets attached to the remote with a small screw and there's a switch that allows you to fold or release the key stub like a "switchblade"...hence the name. The other items are in the pic are there for reference...a spare cover (has the spring/coil) is there to show how the key stub is attached...and the regular key is there to show perspective (size of the switchblade remote).

Go to this site and scroll down to the 2nd subject (Programming The IR Remote) for detailed instructions to reprogram the switchblade remote: http://bmwe32.student.utwente.nl/joh...ps_tricks.html

If you are looking for a new IR switchblade remote, the BMW part number is 66 10 1 390 263 (click this link to go to the online parts database diagram...see item #7 : http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...65&fg=60&hl=48 .... the laser cut key stub that gets attached to the switchblade remote (and is cut to your car's VIN) is found here (item #6 in diagram: 51 21 1 956 925): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...41&fg=40&hl=66

Whew, that took a while...hope this helps bring clarity.

    Default Programming the remote. ...

This are the instructions for the old keyless remote (I have one of those).

    Initializing the transmitter

    - Turn ignition key to position 2.

    - Set the infrared remote control over the initializing unit (see figure).

    - Keep depressed key button 1 until remote unit LED starts blinking (about 2 secs.). Once blinking, job is done. (Key button 1 is the one that unlocks the car),

In no more than 15 minutes, you should do the same job for every other infrared remote control used for the car. (Up to 4 units)

During all this time you shouldn't turn off ignition key.

Remote control initialization is needed if:

    - Changing batteries took more than 1 minute, or a key button was depressed wile changing batteries.

    - If a new Remote control is included in the system.

Initialization can be carried out as many times as needed.

    Good luck,

    Javier

Default you can get it on Ebay, Infrared looks like this

used. I have now exactly 3 and a half. Paid about 50 US $ each.
What is broken? You can get from the dealer also the upper and the lower part separately.

    laser cut key stub: part # 51 21 1 956 925
    screw (secures key stub to remote fob): part # 51 21 1 388 909
    batteries: part # 32 32 1 151 013

The lower part where the key stun fits in costs around US $ 30. The upper part with the elctronics costs more.

    Hey Shogun -

Does that picture show all of the necessary remote locking system components? I'm thinking it'd be cool to retrofit one onto my car, although I know that the IR range sucks.

    Best, whit

Detailed description of the parts and how to wire are on Johan's page under retrofits.
Pics above are also from his page.

Thanks a lot guys. Sounds like I can buy the mechanical part of the blade key from BMW for a "moderate" price. probably better off doing that, rather than getting a used and tired one off e-bay....
    Thanks.
