I've got a set of used ones FS, but new should not be hard to find. Have you checked BMA and some of the other "usual suspects"??

I second BMA I have used them for several years and the prices can't be beat. They always give me personal service and are very quick in shipping. If you aren't into paying big money for new parts, look for used on ebay. There have been alot of e34 used oem parts latley.

what's the difference between the regular foglights and the ellipsoids? Do they have a different look, or beam pattern?

I just picked up a set on ebay for 107.00 shipped to my door, there was 2 sets dont know whats out now. They look totally high tech compared to the old ones, they even have adjustments to "aim" them like headlights!
