Have you checked the infamous mighty fusible link??? It's a big 100amp fuse located in-line with a pencil thick cable near the battery in a black plastic box slightly larger than a book of matches.Originally Posted by ve39

and when i open that box i have to check all of those fig fuses ?
it's usually with in 1 foot of the battery on the smaller of the two positive wires, if i remember right it's 80 amps, if the bmw dealer is out a 85 mercedes 300d glow plug relay uses the same exact strap fuse (i order both and once you remove from packageing you can't tell the difference)

Haha, not with that pic. Locate your battery. Attached to the positve (+) terminal of the battery, there will be a red or black wire, about 30cm along the wire there will be a small black box, open the small black box and there is a small metal strip in there. Check that the metal strip is intact and has good connections. I'll take a picture of mine if you still can't find it.
sorry for the picture but i really can't find this small box i dunno may be i'm looking in the wrong place
thx for your help
Here have a look at this this is my '89 525i. If your battery isnt in the engine bay have a look under the rear seat and you should see a similar looking boxOriginally Posted by ve39

The Show 'n Shine is weeks away and the engine is dirty!!!! Think about painting the cover. I's an easy job and looks great.
