the E head will not work with I pistons, the I's have a funky half dome half dished piston that hits the small chamber of the E head
I am considerin purchasing a cheap 1989 525i (becuase the timing belt broke and bent the valves). The body and interior is good and it ias a 5-speed. I have a local salvage yard that has a '85 325e engine intact and good... Is it a simply head swap onto the 525i? What are particular problems with this procedure? Also, is there any good advice to steer me in my consideration of this vehicle as a project car? I own a 1990 535i, but would like something with better gas mileage.
thanks!
Tim N.

all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it
Look here for information on building a stroker/hybrid motor. It has a parts list and procedure for an e30eta, but the site can answer many of your questions for an "i" motor. http://www.strictlyeta.net/technical/328i_1.html
