    Default 540ia 0-60 and 1/4 mile times

car is a 93L .now i know its only an auto but with 280bhp i was expecting somewhere in the mid to high 14,s for the 1/4.but yesterday at york the best i could manage is 15.4 at 92mph.didnt seem to make much difference if i held it against the torque converter or not.1/8 mile was at 10.2 seconds at 71mph,60ft time was 2.5 seconds.does any one have any proper times for the auto and manual? car is going for a superchip next wednesday to see if that improves matters.if not may have to convert to manual.

    Were you manually shifting?

That's about what I'd expect, E34s are pretty heavy. 92mph is a good trap speed, you might be able to get that down to 15.0 with some practice. A 2.5 60' time leaves some room for improvement.

no i was leaving it to shift itself in sport mode,it was changing at red line.seemed to take ages to get fired up in first but it does run to 45 in first gear

quit drag racing, you will destroy the car!!!! I used to do that, and I annihilated my drivetrain Get a good set of springs and shocks, find a backroad. Or join teh local CCA and visit the autocross or track day Remember, brakes are cheaper than a transmission or clutch

That does seem like a pretty long first gear. What's the diff ratio on those cars? I may have to change my statement about the short times as it sounds like you may have gearing working against you.

92mph is a respectable trap speed though. You might try shifting manually and maybe not take it all the way up to redline. Does the car ever run out of breath before redline? It may be better to shift a few hundred rpm sooner. If you go out again play around with shift points and see if it helps at all.
