Default E38 4-Pot front brake calippers??!!

Hi can anyone help me I have a 1988 (UK) E34 525SEI and I’ve been offered a set of E38 7 series 4 piston front brake calliper set up for a very tempting price but need to no if their is any chance of it fitting my E34 or is it just a non starter? I know the E31 840/ 850 brakes are a straight swap, is this the same story for the E38 or did they use different carriers, bolt offsets etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

here is Bruno's brake upgrade page bmwe34.net it does not say anything about the e38. It only states that the e31,e32, and e34 m5/540 brakes will fit.

Cheers Darron I’ve already discovered bmwe34.net quite a while ago (excellent site very useful.) but like you say it doesn’t mention the e38! If any one has any close ups of the front struts or know the distance between the carrier bolt holes this would be of great help.

Pretty sure you're out of luck on this.

You do know you can get the complete E31 4 pot setup for $600 (with rotors) right? brakewarehouse.com is where I got mine. The only thing missing is the tube that goes on the caliper to distribute the fluid to each side ($50 dealer part).

That’s not bad, are they the later ones with BMW embossed on the side? Do you know any were in the UK with a similar deal?!

No, these do not say BMW on them. Not sure about the UK though, sorry.

there was a guy on this board selling some 850 4 piston calipers with rotors and pads. He was parting his E34 out and I asked about them but never made an offer. I ended up going with the M5 front set up, but he emailed me today asking if I was still interested in them. If you want to email me at darrond@sbcglobal.net i will forward you his email address or give him yours if you or anyone else are interested.

Yer their Bruno’s aren’t they! He wants $500US for them + $150US for shipping witch is just too expensive for second hand brakes! They are all that’s stopping you from ploughing straight on through the hedgerow after all. I cant use M5 brakes coz I’m running on 16s. why is life so complicated?! I just had my windscreen replaced today with the tinted sun strip only £120 inc VAT excellent job as well!
