Probably a bad crank position sensor... that get too hot and kills your engine. If you pour cold water on it, you should be able to start your car up immediately.
I have a 525i Auto, 1994. Just last week the engine cuts out for no reason and trans program comes up. After waiting at least 10mins the engine starts OK. Now everything runs well when it is running. This has happenned quite a few times now- usually in the middle of a junction!
The auto box does not appear to be the problem and if it was why should the engine cut out.
Any ideas guys?

my guess is the DME is beginning to fail. 10 minutes it resets or something.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll start with the sensor. Is it easily accessable?Originally Posted by Tiger
