Check out the last pic. My dad managed to catch the moment I was handing over the bag of cash to the tuner. The chain will be mounted today and the motor delivered to the mechanic tomorrow.

This is NOT what Jason's (TheGeak) motor looked like when we had the VC off and head... lol. Someday Jas, someday.

Hey Dimitry, I didn't know you were in touch with Trent @ Apex... he's a cool guy, we were out drinking weekend before last. They hooked my girlfriend up with a good price on a 10.5lb fly when we were doing her M3 drivetrain swap. I know the owner of Apex is into E34 M5's, never met him tho.
Great guys. If you go again in a few days tell him Dmitry wants his ****ing flywheel. Yeah their prices are what drove me to them and the service, quality and just the products they have made me stay. He now wants me to get the cat eliminator pipes (whatever they're called, can't remember). He said they add a midrange boost. I almost went for it too. But I'm broke already so that will have to be next year. Maybe even the cams they have Shrick make, he said they designed a very agressive profile, and that combination, with what I already have makes him wish he could afford to run an E34 M5.
Yeah I haven't met either but I've talked to mostly Ben before and I was shocked at how well he knows the S38 and E34. At first I was double checking and explaining everything I said because I was using lingo only M5 guys would understand. Most people think S62 when you say M5. He even knows little things like the crank being different pre '91 etc.
shared your pics with a couple of fellow motorheads at work. Just doesn't get much better than that. Those castings are really something...beautiful.
That engine belongs on a stand in my living room :-)...if not in my car.
Best of luck in your journey to finish the rebuild.

I just dumped a bunch of cash at Apex to work on my E28 M5 with a s38b36 motor. Ben is a good guy. I met him about 7 years ago through a buddy of mine that owns a BMW / Porsche dismantling shop in San Diego.
My variable intake wasn't functioning on my s38b36 since I did the conversion, so I had him hook it up properly. He also changed the water pump, welded up a crack in my oil pan, and did a valve adjustment. I plan on having him do some more work soon...so far I'd definitly recommend his shop.

They're called track pipes, because you're not supposed to use them on the road :P. I had some stainless steel ones made for my E28 M5, they make a noticable difference (Speedforce in El Cajon made them, not Apex).
