Easiest to install is the same engine, no changes necessary, just think about ECU, engine wiring loom, transmission, driveshaft length/size, cooling system etc.

I have the same M50 non-vanos and have been using a full-synthetic Mobil1 0-40 or similar weight synthetic castrol for many years. vehicle is only driven in summer months, oil get changed once per year.

Currently use a 10w40 high milage oil and change once a year in my 95 with M50 engine. Only drive it about 1300 miles a year.

Yes, no problem, I live in Japan and in summer season with hot climate it is between 25 up to 35 degree Celsius and my E36 M3 uses Mobil 10W 40. Mobil I use because I can get it cheap here from Costco, actually I have no preference. Regular change and a filter change are more important.
