That complicates things a bit! But it may come down to just wiring:

1992 M30 uses ECU 1387625 and Actuator 1378315. From the pics in the other thread, this is what OP has got
    1989 M20 uses ECU 1388043 and Actuator 1388315.

Realoem shows the changeover point from 1388043 to 1387625 as September '91 and says it is not backwards compatible. Mine was built in Feb '92 and realoem shows it had the later one. It didn't. It had the earlier 1388043 and worked perfectly. That is probably what they had on the shelf at the time where it was built, together with the 'old' loom. Sot it would appear you can use either provided you wire it up correctly

As you can see I managed to remove the wires from the connector I've obtained. The reason why I did that was because the wire colors didn't match. So I re-pinned the connector according to the ETM and got myself a new connector. Now, I'm on my way to connect the wires from this connector to the actuator, as you can see on the last picture. I will post more picture as I move on. Cheers and thank you all for your help!

Started retrofitting the cruise control in my E34 M20 and successfully routed the wires from the actuator to the ECU, but a new problem came up.

My cruise control stalk has only two wires (yellow/white and brown/blue) and that stalk is from the previous engine (535 M30), which I mentioned when I stated that I had an engine conversion two years ago. The thing that is bothering me is that the connector in my car, in which I should plug in the stalk, has 5 pins and the stalk connector has only 2 pins (or wires).

My question is: Can I use this stalk and somehow modify the stalk connector, which is missing 3 wires or pins, or should I obtain another stalk? Thanks in advance!

Can someone help me? Almost finished everything, I'm stuck with the stalk. Just tell me should I buy a proper stalk or is there a way to modify the connector of this stalk? As I can see, this stalk has the same functions as the other stalks, but it differs because it has only two wires or pins, unlike the other stalks which have 5 pins or wires. Thanks again!

I have thrown cars away with electrical issues so needless to say I can't help much. I would guess it would be easier to get a stalk with the 5 wires and go from there. Still doesn't mean your cruise will work if you changed out the wiring harness that goes to the cruise control.

I think you already know the answer. Without looking at a wiring diagram, I'd suggest that the stalk has 5 wires because it needs them. I think there are different designs of stalk though - mine had a serious double bend in it. If it didn't, you would not see it behind the steering wheel

    (1) look at the wiring diagram. How many wires are going into the connector?

    (2) part numbers for electrical connector fittings should be available at realoem.com
