Default Blower Motor does not work.

OK, my nieces 1992 525im (yes stick), blower motor does not work. I replaced the resistor pack already, I checked and replaced all the fuses, even though non-seemed out. I'm thinking it's the blower motor.

She says it only worked on high, for a real long time, then all the sudden it did not work in any position.

When I've had blower motors go, there always was a lot of burnt electrical smell. She says there was no smell.

She says two days ago, it did not work, then she started driving, and it worked. But yesterday it did not work at all. It's been dead since.

Any ideas, and if it is the blower motor, how hard is it to replace? I've looked on the net and found little to nothing on replacing that bitch!

I gained access to the blower motor by taking the panel off the firewall. Turned the car on to test the blower motor, and it worked. I don';t know what the problem was. I did turn the blower blade a little before I tried it. Maybe the brush was in a bad position. Maybe they are going out. But it works for now, I put it all together, we'll see how long it stays that way.

I don't know. Has to be some sort of bad contact. We'll see how long it stays working. Good to hear from you Bruno.

I just had the same issue. One morning, about -25C, started the car and the blower was dead. I decided to drive around the block with the windows open (brrrrr!) and suddenly it started working again. It worked fine on balmier days but as soon as it got cold it would only work intermittently. Anyways, it turned out to be the heater blower control regulator.

Do you mean the sword or resistor pack (depending on year)?

Yeah, my car is 88/06 so it uses the "sword". Here they call it the Heater Fan Control Unit.

Based on that link are these the absolute and only modes of failure?

    Failure syndromes:
    • Fan blower not working on position 1,2 or 3,
    • Fan blowing in full blast whatever the position of the knob.

Well. I replaced the resistor pack, and it did not fix it. At least not immediately. I opened up access to the blower, and it miraculously started working. So I'm gonna say I dono! Although in my example, it only worked on high, and then stopped working altogether, till I replaced resistor pack and opened access to blower. So who knows!
