Default Had the Injectors Ultrasonically cleaned!

**I know I've gone over to the dark side lol but just posted this on the Jag forum so thought I'd better get it on here also... Might come in useful to someone sometime! **

Decided to have my injectors cleaned professionally and found a place fairly local (over in the Wirral) and had them done yesterday. Great guy - very down to earth and knew his stuff too.

Before I went down I took them off (as the Mrs was giving me a lift over there!) and numbered them up incase one performed particularly badly!

Initially he performed a leak test, which all the injectors passed. Following this a test for the spray pattern. All injectors looked pretty good but number six a little different from the rest.

Then for the intersting part which was the flow test! (Measuring how much fluid passed through each injector in a contunous 20 second burst (Under 2bar of pressure i think!). Here's how they faired:

Not bad at all really considering they have 136k miles on them The most important thing is they are around the same level - similar to a compression test.

Next he put them in the ultrasonic cleaner for three cycles (kinda like a jacuzzi for injectors that makes a rather annoying noise!)... Then he re-flow tested them to see any change.

The cleaning improved the spray pattern on #6 and increased the flow rate from around 65ml over a 20 second period to around 70ml!

Got them back in yesterday evening and took it for a drive (on a few errands!)... Car feels really good - Smooth as you like and I would most definitely say improved response on WOT

All injectors tested/cleaned/re-tested for £60... Plus he changed all filters and o-rings. Bargain! If anyone wants contact details just let me know.

Just got back from a weekend in Stratford and got only 27-28mpg And thats keeping it around the limit on the motorway - and the miles of roadworks where you have to do 50 as they are bristling with speed cameras.
So expect a call some time soon!

Hmmm interesting - This defo wasn't petrol because I couldn't smell it at all (he was pouring it out right in front of me and dripping it about a fair bit!) Could be a cleaning fluid also?

I would want something less explosive than gasoline to flow test with. Think of the fumes generated during the atomization...Kaboom!

We used to use denatured alcohol to clean injectors, both diesel and gas. I always wondered how big a bang that would've made had something gone wrong...

Long ago I had a gig in a diesel FI shop. We used diesel to flow test as I recall.
Diesel would be a whole bunch safer than vaporizing gasoline, err, petrol, in your shop and would serve the purpose.
