jeez I am so bad I didn't update this.

that fix worked for a bit but not for very long.

I took it apart again and took the little black slider off that moves along the middle rail. Inside it are 5 or 6 contacts that bridge those circuits depending on its position. I removed the contact for the reverse circuit (the bottom one IIRC), flipped it 180' and reinstalled... now it is really fixed. (fingers crossed... so far so good...)

good luck with the manual fix!

The wiring goes through the console, so it is easy to troubleshoot it if you grab the right wiring diagram for your car's VIN. They are online, easy to find if you haven't got one already.
So it's easy to reach the wiring through the console but what if finally the switch is bad could we also reach it and replace it from the interior of the car through the console ?
