    Default 540 overheating

    94 540i auto
comming home tonight temp gauge went to the red and saw steam from under the bonnet. Was quite dark but seemed to be losing coolant near the windscreen on the passenger side.

The unit it seemed to be comming from is quite noisy when the ignition is on and from the Bentley looks like its the auxiliary coolant pump.

any ideas re replace/repair or bypass

    thks

If it's coming from that area. it's either the water valve or the aux pump.
I had a valve blow on me; the break was the seam of the valve body itself.
It's a fairly easy replacement. I renewed all the clamps and the pump too.
