Default Look what was festering in my trunk!

I decided to clean out my trunk the other day because....well...I had junk in my trunk. I pullout out the floor mat and Ahhhhh!

The mat had somehow rubbed through the paint and created long lines of corroded dust on top of rust. Just disgusting. Let this be a warning to all of you to check your trunks for rust.

So, I cleaned the the surface, sanded off any loose rust and flaking paint.

After cleaning, I painted all the rust spots and bare metal spots with rust converter.

Once the converter did it's job and left a smooth black coat, my heart rate settled back to normal.

And since I had the rust converter out, I went through the engine bay as well on a similar search and destroy mission (hint: check under the washer fluid reservoir). I hope this encourages others to catch this automotive cancer before it gets out of hand.

Thanks, Benny, looks like you just found it early enough to stop the cancer.
I also have made very good experience with rust converter (local japanese product here), works great, have done the door lower parts inside, since some years no problem there again.
But I have to say that in general there are no big rust issues in the area where I live, basically now snow in winter , no salt on streets in winter.
