I just read that 15,363 750i s were produced. Is this so?

most of them were sold in Europe, I guess no one made it to the USA.
Most of the Alpina B12 5.0 E32 are short wheel base.
Here in Japan we have both, i and iL.

I expected you'd have the answer.
Any experience with the V12 in a standard wheelbase car? It would seem to have some sporting potential, in a stately way of course.

well, in our DIY group we have some members with Alpina B12 5.0, both versions i and iL.
Have driven them all, but in normal traffic and with a speed limit of 100 kmh here in Japan basically no 'feelable' difference. Probably if you drive really hard and in corners there should be a difference.
My daily driver is a iL and the Highline too.
And I have a B12 short version also.

It must be frustrating to have all those cylinders just idling along all of the time.
Any chance to get out in the country and race the Shinkansen?

I remember seeing a very good example of a red 750i here in the states, but it was someplace in the Midwest.
