Better deal on 540 O2 Sensors?

The best price I have found is for NGK pn 25561 O2 sensors. I cannot remember where I found them but they were in the ballpark of $87.00, which is not a huge savings over the Bosch sensors.

$32 at Rockauto... will need to splice the wires. The reason O2 are that expensive is because of the factory plug in wire...

Had to change one on my Honda lately the one after the cat. cost much more that the one in front of the cat... the one after cat. have longer cable this seems the only difference.

In general are the electrical caracteristics of those O2 sensors the same ? Could a universal one really do the job properly ?

Yes, my 540i has universal one... and I didn't install it... my mechanic did and charged me the same as the factory one 7 years now.

Its best that you research the compatibility of 'universal' O2s for your honda (what do you have?). While I have successfully been using a spliced universal Bosch O2 on my e34, I will not use a universal on my wifes 2002 CRV. From CRV forums, its almost unamimous that universals don't provide proper feedback and alleviete your poor mileage. I don't recall whether a iniversal will turn off the CEL, but thats beside the point. There are many retailers of universals for honda out there, so make sure it will fix the problem before wasting you $$

Oh, as well Claude, depending on the Honda, the post-cat may have a heater element in it, which the pre-cat doesn't. They are pricey, but might be worth it.
