    Default power window plastic transmission

    my window got stuck open 6 inches today... i had to take it off the window regulator to slide it back up, it is supposed to snow tonight.

    i have a spare from my old doors but i can't see a way around taking the whole regulator off, damn those rivets!

    this happened to me before on another door and it was the same thing - the plastic cog got all chewed up by the motor. my spare is even older than the one in there. are they all plastic like that? pretty lame....

    suxx... the last time this happened was on the ds rear door which is from this car, but this time it is it's on a donor door
    - even after i fix it all 4 door windows will be ready to pack it in at any time.

    at least i know what size bolts to buy...

    Royal PITA this job, I found. Yeah you'll have to drill the rivets out. Why oh why did they use rivets and not nuts and bolts?!?!

    Rivet=$.005 Bolt and nut= more x 1,000,000 = $$$
    At least the rivets are soft and can be drilled in two seconds.
    Tim,
    I want your car when you are finished with it.

    Are the internals field replaceable? As in, you can take the plastic cog out and put one back in without removing the motor? It would be interesting to find the cost to make a new cog fabbed out of aluminum if the demand were there.

    run a few 1/4" long screws in though the holes in that metal disc into the plastic behind it, that usually does the trick unless the gear is stripped instead of the usual busted drive dogs, if the screws are too long you will lock the gear in place so mind that they don't get into the housing behind the gear
    all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it

    hmmm, i'm pretty sure the plastic cog is totally stripped. i'd bet the motor is still good, the last one was good but the plastic cog was mashed potatoes. i have a replacement ready to go but maybe i should try that anyway to see if it works.

    i like patrick's idea about aluminium cogs... hellbeast has eaten 2 in 6 months.
    seriously ross, you don't want this thing it would eat your garage.

    i thought about putting a manual winder there for safety's sake. (shrug...then i hit the snooze button)
