    Default E34 540i/6 sprung clutch?

Is there such a thing? RealOEM shows what looks like one, but it shares PN's with the unsprung one, and the only place I see it might be sold is in Bavauto's clutch kit, though that could be a stock photo. Anyone know anything about it?

Otherwise, what clutch are people with the 265mm JBR flywheel using? Is there any LTW FW/sprung clutch combo that isn't the better part of 2 grand (UUC)?

    Thanks

By sprung are you referring to the pressure plate or the anti-shock springs in the clutch plate itself?

I think pretty much all OEM clutch friction plates have springs in them these days - to prevent shock damage to the drivetrain for the main part! It's usually only aftermarket high torque clutches that dont have springs fitted to them.

Is the clutch combo you're talking about a specialist after market one? Most of the OEM clutch kits I've seen for the pressure plate and friction disk land at the £200/$400 mark?

Well, the "normal" (?) 540i clutch is an unsprung unit - no flex between the friction disk and the hub. However, another clutch with the same PN has springs, presumably making it much more appropriate for use with a single-mass flywheel, which is what I'm ultimately after.

Really, I just want a flywheel that weighs more like 15# instead of that 40-pound millstone that's currently in my 6-box. AFAIK there is no such thing as a lightweight dual-mass (which would let me keep using a solid clutch), so I'm in search of a lightweight single-mass and a sprung clutch to fit.

    Check this site. http://www.jbracing.com/flywheel-bmw4.php#e34models
They are pricy, about $800, then you'll have to buy the clutch at another $3 or 4 hundred...

The performance gain is probably worth it, but be prepared to hear a rattling sound like in an M5 when you're sitting at idle with the clutch out.
