    Default Change the Shift

    Hi, I'll like to change the shift. Actually I've this shift... (BMW-34)



    But, I want to know if I can put this shift.... (BMW E-39)



    Anybody do it?? Any pics??

    That E39 one you've got pictured looks just like the one that came stock in my E34. The one that's in my car was also in E31's, Z3's, and a few other cars I can't recall offhand.

    So, if that one is the same as what I'm running it can certainly be done. Just don't know what to tell you on what needs doing to do it.

    I only want to know if I could change the shift knob (plug & Play). Or isn't very simple??

    No, can you take a better pic of the safety pin for that new style shift knob? I used an E39 one in mine, I had to shorten the metal shaft so the E39 shift knob would properly function, I'm still working on it to stay put and not slide around when I grab it.

    You have to cut down the plastic pin and/or the shaft (better if you do). Making it stay put is a matter of jamming a wedge in there, or drilling and threading hole and a screw in both the shaft and the knob (which doesn't have the bolt standard like the e34 t-bar)
