I know you have the GM box, not a ZF. I was just suggesting that BMW may have made it idiot proof on the GM box too - you cant physically 'plug in' the wrong type on the ZF.

"..Torchinski v. Peterson that it is legal to carry a concealed weapon, so long the weapon is totally slick like a huge ass machine gun that you carry under a trench coat, like in the Matrix."

Be very pleased to help if I can

Edit: Just cos I'm bored waiting for somebody to call I'm posting this pic:

Its the tranny socket and has 14 pins on mine. There are 3 pins that stick out of the side of the socket and the coarse cap thread engages with them. On post Sep '92 models the fitting isnt a screw but a bajonnet

    ryan

Im in the same boat you are, everywhere I search I find the 4L30E transmision in many cars, 96 to 99 323, 328 and 528, 96 to 2000 Z3

In looking at realoem information even the supplement number is almost the same except for the 2 last letters, this 4L30E appears to have been used in many cars.

What is the real difference between the same transmision from any of the above models and the E34

For those who read posts if you work at a dealer how about pitching in with some inside info to our dilema "besides our specific model year what can we pull from and drop in our car"

I would be nice to get a 5L40-E which superceeds our transmision but is 5 speed.

or go older I have a 4HP22 from a 90 525i which runs fine but the car is in need of interiors and suspension.

    Thanks
    Xavier
