Default Any one have experience with SLR chips?

Found this web site and they offer a performance chip for my 1989 535i e34 only $70.00 USD. Anyone have any experience with SLR?

    This does not inspire confidence:

    • 2x Quick connects
    • 2x Butt Connectors
    • 2x Black zip ties
    • 2x Pieces of Velcro

The 'chip' sounds like a temperature sensor hack...

Oh, I missed this statement as well:

*All HP and Torque gains are estimates based on engine size and any other performance modifications you already might have. We guarantee the gains we have listed or your money back. MPG gains are estimated and may vary depending on driving style and/or city/highway MPG.

    AVOID!

So is there a chip for my 535i? Sounds like all the chips that are available require the use of high octane fuel

They offer the exact same chip for my wife's Suburban! Imagine, the exact same product offering the exact same performance increase on two drastically different vehicles. What are the odds?

In fact, looks like you can get one for the Geo Metro:

and it will double the original 50 horsepower:

You're not going to find a chip that doesn't require use of high octane fuel as one of the things that needs to be changed in order to improve power is to advance the timing. And advancing the timing requires higher octane fuel to prevent detonation.

But you can (and should) look at it this way. With my Dinan chip in my 540 I got 3-4 MPG more than I did with the stock chip. Stock software calls for mid-grade. Cost of super over midgrade is $0.10/gallon. So super costs 2.5% more than midgrade at approx. $4/gallon. And going from 25MPG to 28.5MPG is a 14.28% increase in MPG.

So, is spending 2.5% more on gas worth going 14.28% farther per gallon?

You should try one of my chips, you won't be disappointed. Five or six years ago, many people on this forum bought my chips, now when I mention them, nobody even knows who I am. But the chips are still widely known as the best you can get for a BMW.

    Hi Qube,

I'm glad you like your winter car's increased torque. Thanks for trying it out.

I'm going to get the equipment to program the biturbo from the 1, 3 and 5 series soon. I can get it here in two weeks, but it's very expensive so I'm trying to find some interested owners first.
