    Default Cupholder

    Shogun,
Is Herb still offering the cupholders? this is a great piece and I would like to have another one for my 740iL. Please let me know if they are still available. Thanks. Sonny (palengke@cox.net)

    Hello Erich,
Here is the situation with the cupholder. We made the mold and ran
the initial quantity of parts. I sold the last of the parts about a month ago and the only way to sell more is if I have another molder make them for me. My cost for a limited number of parts is a bit over $1200. That means I'm out of pocket until I sell about 40 cupholders. If we can do that I'll have the parts made.

The cupholder price has been $29.95USD for the past several years, and seems to be reasonably well accepted. Shipping/handling has been $8.50 for US and Canada. To Europe and your area (Asia)the shipping cost is higher, but not a huge differential. As far as RHD is concerned, I think I should refrain from that option. Herb

Additional info from my side: that cupholder does not fit on consoles which have the holder for ASC and/or EDC.
    Fits on E34 and E32.
It fits, however, on center consoles for automatic transmissions and for manual gears/shifters.
Here are the pics how they look. Please post if any interest, then I will inform Herb and he has to decide to go ahead or not. I will link this post also on other boards. If he goes ahead, you can buy them on Ebay.

Default Herbs cupholders semi-fit LHD: May be possible to modify

I got mine and fitted them to RHD. due to the orientation of the dash angle being opposite on RHD to LHD, one cupholder can only carry change, not a cup.

So at the moment, I can only use to outer holder, closest to my leg But with care, they work, both on manual and auto

It is made from vacuum formed PET, so I will cut one apart and try to create a mirror version. Will post pics of the before and after when I do.

Should be good when I''m done.

But for those with the ASC or EDC switch in the center console: N.G.
just tried my cupholder from Herb last weekend on the E32 Alpina B12 of my wrenching buddy, does not fit at all, one would have to cut off half of the left side cupholder to fit it, the ASC/EDC switch takes too much space there.

Lovely pics mate... These show the installation in a RHD car.

I didn't think they'd fit your auto very well but you can see they do, sort of. Go nice in the manual. just need to swap that old wooden stick for a modern e39/46 one! Nick

Yep. Beware though, the holder on the passenger side is good for a mobile phone- a drink will not go in there with the dash angled above it the way it is on a RHD car.
But the left one is usable, and the tray is a better than the slide board that BMW never thought about storage with.

I was going to make a hybrid out of fibreglass nad Herb's excellent holders, that would go round the whole shifter a la the nice M5 gear shift surround but incorporate the holder/s and a set of gauge holes. The problem is mkaing it LHD & RHD compatible... (thinking) oh yea, and work for auto and manual... LOL!
