Default ~~~E12~~~ Should I buy it??

    Hey all,
    I am the proud owner of a 1990 E34 535i

I have recently found a one owner, damn-near-perfect '76 E12 520i in a local car yard. They are asking around $3000AUD

Its got 260k kms on the clock, manual, mintgrun with tan interior. The M10 is visually clean, and run fine.

I am not familiar with these cars, and have a few queries.

    How reliable are these cars??

How about the old jetronic injection?? Parts??

What wears out?? Apparently the engine mounts and diff mounts are an issue??

    Common problems with the M10??

Is it going to cost me as much as to run/maintain as my E34.

I need a nice, reliable to run little daily-driver. I already have a 'keep in the shed, weekend car' I just think that this E12 may be a great oppportunity!!

Anybody that has guidance/advice/experience/2 cents worth please drop me an email nick.hay@bigpond.com
Any info will be greatly appreciated
    Cheers all

Default E12 should you buy it.

I have owned three e12s(all 1981 528is) over the last eight years. I am not familiar with the 520i but I figure the motor is the same as in a 320i and a 2002. That is a tough motor. Decent performance and good gas mileage. I have never had any of the problems that you mentioned. The cars are very reliable and cheap to maintain. The fuel injection systems are bulletproof. Parts are readily available. For more information go to www.firstfives.org There are plenty of e12 drivers from down under that regularly visit the site also. A few have the more desirable M535i. LOL.
