or you could post your vin or chassis number and we could tell you what bmw think it is.Open the bonnet.Do you see"BMW M Power" and six seperate throttle bodies if you dont its not an M5.The other possibility is that at some time in its life it has had m5 transplant(s)

    Default What have I bought?

New to this, new to BMW's. The car is registered here as a 535 yet has M5 badges and appears to have some M5 features. Had it inspected today and the authorities say that they can see no obvious signs of modification.

I would like to know what I have, is it an early M5 or 535. I will post pics if someone can tell me what to take pictures of or look for. It may have been 'mis registered' or had some mods done that were done well in the past.

    It could be a 535is.
A 535iS is a 535i but includes the BMW factory 'M' Sport package.

To my knowledge these weren't available in the U.S. but did appear in Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Paul from New Zealand has one of these...

    Here's his...

Jump through the pages and you'll see enough pictures to get an idea.

If it is a genuine 'iS' it should have the Recaro style sports seats (with thigh supports) front and rear spoilers and skirts, M-Tec 2 steering wheel, sports suspension and a LSD. Engine performance was the same as the standard 535i.

Ultimately a VIN search should prove whether you have a genuine 'iS' or not.
