Default M30 engine and five speed manual

I am pretty green when it comes to the mechanical nature of these cars. Someone asked me if a motor that had an automatic transmission would need any modification to hook up to five speed. I told him I would ask the forum. I am sure its a very easy question for most of you but I really don't know. Can someone hook up their manual transmission to a 1992 M30 motor that previously was an auto? Are the bell housing shapes exactly the same? Thanks
