1990 525i speaker questions

I have a 1990 bmw 525i around 160000 miles on it. I recently decided i wanted to replace the speakers along with the tweeters. The tweeters are the main problem(producing cracking sounds and fading in and out) So i want to install new speakers and tweeters all around. I was wondering if this is a easy task. Or is there any problems i will run into. Also if anyone has suggestions for speakers or tweeters please let me know or suggestions for the installation process or problems.

i think those are just the rear speaker sizes, the dash spkrs aren't that big are thay? the tweeters are way smaller than that... i would replace with stock speakers from a scrapyard but generally speakers aren't the problem, the crackling could be just as easily bad connections in the wiring behind the head unit or at the amp in the trunk or the wires themselves. the stereo is not simple. if you want to upgrade from a stock system check out www.bmwe34.net there's good stuff there.

Are you changing the head unit too ? The fading of the tweeters is not likely from them being defective, unless they truly are busted physically. That could however only be the reason for them being cracking when playing. Or, your head unit could be too powerful for them if you don't have a stock one.

I had a problem where my right rear was coming on and off, but it turned out the signal from the head unit was the problem as was found out to a great cost at the garage.

When speakers come on and off like that, its more likely the head unit is the cause.

If one of your tweeters is good, interchange it with the other to test it out.
