    Default Water pump replacement, when ? How many miles can it last ?

    Planning to buy an used 1999 bmw touring E39, and knowing that water pump could maybe need a replacement or not, i would like to know when have you changed yours ? When its common to change water pumps on these vehicle ? Is this too expensive ?

    most of the cooling system takes a **** around 70-100k miles on e46 and e39s
    all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it

    mine went out at 110 k

    i would change it before it does cause mine was the plastic propeller and it got in my radiator so i had to changed that as well =(

    aside from the plastic pump impeller that came on the e36/34s they actually can last a good bit longer, 150k is not uncommon

    I had a good one...lasted 138K.

    I just changed mine out... not 100% sure but reckon it was the original and there's 154k on the clock! It seemed fine but once off I give it a few spins and the bearing felt a bit on the loose side with some lateral movement. Not a bad job and going to do a write up on it shortly.
