auto to manual transmission question

Good day all,
I have a 1995 540i. I am going to convert it to a 5 speed. My question is will a E39 flywheel and clutch bolt on to my E34? These flywheels seem easier to find.

Hi,

Don't know the answer to your question, unfortunately but check the on-line ETK at Realoem.com and compare part numbers for the two cars. If they are identical, you have your answer. If not, someone may know of minor mods (hopefully) that may permit a retrofit.

IIRC from a recent thread elsewhere, I believe it was explained that the e39 is a DOWNGRADE for the e34 540. Smaller clutch diameter and torque capacity.

Don't quote me on this but I remember reading that the e39 M5 clutch was a good upgrade for our cars. I will do some digging and see if I can find where I saw that.
