I am curious about how that is done without distorting the end. I always assumed the final machining to be done after but these appear "uncracked".

Expensive.
crappy Eagle rods are the weak link in "any" engine, I know they are cheap as hell and hard to pass up but *wow* I wouldnt use them in my lawnmower.
