Default Will a 540i rear muffler box fit a 535i??

    Just as the title says...

My E34 535i passed rego, and is back on the road!! YAY!!!

However, the rear box is shot, the front end of it rattles around where it has rotted out. I have the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand rear muffler off a 540iLE, but will it fit??

    They kinda look the same...

    Gone but NEVER forgotten. :'(

    And then...

I don't think it will hurt and she'll fit alright.

I had a look at realoem.com to see if they were the same...

Do you think its just a generic catalogue image they have used?? And why is the 540i one so much more expensive if they are the same??

It will fit in the space provided, but the pipes are slightly different diameter. An exhaust shop will be able to adapt it to fit.

Have you thought about stainless steel? A custom stainless steel system from the cat back was much cheaper for my 540i than a stock exhaust for either the 540 or the 535. Theres no performance gain but they are guaranteed for life and they sound good

RE: Sig pic, yes a bit big but a lovely car and great photo! Once the pic is cached locally though it doesn't take any longer to load.

I did think about stainless, but the fact that my E34 is auto, I don't really want it to be any noisier than standard. I see automatic cars with big noisy exhausts are a bit of a joke, actually.

I managed to find a 2nd hand muffler, in perfect condition from an enthusiast-owned 540iLE just across town. $200aud. Should be enough to get me out of trouble!!
