Unless you are talking a true M5 or Alpina, ACSchnitzer or Dinan, the 535iM was a mass produced vehicle. It's value should be based on the condition and documented history and actual mileage. Rarity isn't a factor for this model just yet. Though not quite a dime a dozen as the saying goes, there are plenty of them out there.

Anyone have the info on how many were produced and how many imported into the US. I'm thinking about a possible trade of my 90 535iA for a 92 535iM. The guy thinks that he should be able to up the value because its a rare model....I've been told by 2 guys that its not something that should effect value at all but how many??

1993 is the year where rarity comes into play for 535iMs, and even so, only for enthusiasts.

I got this off Roadflea a number of year ago and saved it -supposedly it is accurate. 535im's were imported in limited enough numbers to definitely qualify to be considered rare, although it may be a long time before that is reflected in monetay value. Occasionally I've done nationwide internet searches and have usually found more E34 M5's for sale than E34 535im's.
The next question is what percentage of these are still on the road, ~60% maybe?

    U.S. 535i 5-speed production numbers

    1989 1225
    1990 2283
    1991 541
    1992 714
    1993 75

These figures were provided by BMW North America.
