Cleaning the silver window trim?

bon ami or barkeeps friend...basically non abrasive cleanser...if you don't have any, put some baking soda on a wet sponge

The silver trim around my windows on my 92 525 is very discolored looking. Quick attempts at cleaning it hasn't accomplished anything.

Is this stuff chrome, or polished aluminum? Is there a good way to clean it or get it looking good?
