I've got a little double-cup holder screwed onto the side of the center console. I can fit a Starbucks cup in it but not a thirstbuster.Originally Posted by Derek A.
I have a long commute, coffee is required for the journey. I need a solution to keep it off of me and the rest of the car. Anyone have suggestions that work ? I am using a large like 52 oz coffee thermos. I am thinking something will need to be constructed, as what I have seen on the market for these cars doesn't work real well.

If you don't have ASC button there is a nice insert for you shifter console for two holders.
If you do have ASC there is an aftermarket two cup holder that fits in your car phone/cassette holder area in between your armrests. It's made from PVC, painted black with a little foam ring to hold your drink steady.
What I do is take what's left of my 4 cup pot to work with me. I have skinny sized thermos' (2 for $8 at academy) that work fine, or whatever's left can fit in an everyday travel coffee cup.
Check ebay for the options...shouldn't be more than $15 + s& h

I found that if you take a regular coffee cup from any of the chains, wrap 3-4 napkins around it, it will fit sungly in the center console. The cup will be bent, but it is strong enough to hold, and the napkins pick up any spill.Originally Posted by Derek A.
Now, I got my act together and bought one of those travel mugs - I likewise shove it into the center console (next to the parking brake), but this time, there is no spillage.

I went to Checker and bought a two cup expandable cupholder. This had a flat bottom for screwing it to a console. I then cut a small 2X4 piece of wood to fit right into the holder next to the parking brake. The top of the wood cleared the top of the console by about 1/2 inch. Next I screwed the 2 cup holder onto the top of the wood piece. Now I have a center cupholder than can be adjusted to hold a big gulp (I live in Arizona) and when it is not needed I simply pull it out and place it in the trunk. Total cost about $8US. Total time invested about 20 minutes.

Ultimate cupholders does not have an e34 model yet. I tried a similar deal with a $1.99 cup holder from Murray's auto parts. It has a strap that tucks up into the console, but its not strong enough. The car is a 5 Speed so having stuff up top is not always safe as it can get knocked over in a gear change. I am thinknig about maybe fabricating something out of PVC pipe, to sit on the floor. Needs to be large enough to keep stuff from falling out of it, with some type of clip to keep it upright.

bungie the java tank to the floor in the back seat and run a drinking tube with one of those bite valves like the enduro dirt bike riders have, or just get one of those camel packs and hang it on the seat back. for longer trips a 5 gallon pressurized unit in the trunk heated by the cooling system
all america wants is cold beer warm cat and a place to take a poop with a door on it
