most of the ebay ones are made of metal and can hurt you if the airbag deploys. other than that ive seen some painted ones that look nice
im going to be buying a new set of roundels for the hood, trunk, and replacing one gone missing from the wheel hubcap thing. Also considering getting one for the steering wheel. My e28 has it and I think its a nice touch, that little detail that makes the car seem more valuable.
But I never see this on an E34, whats the general consensus on a colored roundel on the steering wheel? Is it too much?

I've got no airbag. My steering wheel has a roundel in the center.

The E34 didn't get the colored Roundel on the steering wheel until the 1995 model year (in the USA). In fact, the wheel in the 95s is just like the ones in the e39 & e38 EXCEPT they don't have the MLF (redundant) buttons for the radio & cruise control, etc.
As stated earlier, this coincides with BMW bringing the colored Roundel back to this location after research and development found a way to keep the steering wheel roundel from becoming a flying missle towards the driver during an airbg deployment.
The rate of speed that the airbag deploys can actually kill, maim, or disfugure someone...that's why there is a general warning in the owners manual to never place any object on the steering wheel
Here's the steering wheel in my 95 525iT...note the color roundel.![]()

I have a mint condition 95 colored roundel wheel. If you are so inclined

If you're handy with a paint brush...
Kind of a PITA to do, but safer than a disc in the forehead.

Thanks!!! It's just regular model paint (Testors?). You've got to blend the blue and white to get that "just right" BMW blue. I took the airbag off the car and painted it indoors. I was fixing my squeaky steeing wheel and decided it was time for some color. Kind of hard to see, but I painted the intake manifold roundel too.
