Before you start pulling the strut, check that your sway bar (aka traction bar) links are tight. The bolts might have loosened up, or one (or both) might have failed despite being new.
Gentlemen,
I have not posted in a while as my e34 touring has been behaving quite well .
Replaced lower control arms and thrust arms last winter as well as the sway
bar end links. Now I have a clunk again and if I hit a bump at super low
speeds it even rattles. It also makes the noise when I let off the brakes or
when I brake really hard. It sounds like it is in the strut. Any free advice
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Edward

Yep - mine did and i had a terrible amount of noise from the front. Tightened up the nuts again and it totally got rid of the noise.Originally Posted by DaveVoorhis
Personally i'd check all nuts/bolts are torqued correctly down there.
If not maybe the strut mounts are bad and need looking at, i've got mine to do as soon as the spring compressor gets here. Stupid postal strike.
thanks guys, I will check the end links this weekend.
Thanks again, Edward
