Default Saw this and thought I'd pass it along

Someone in Davis, Ca is selling a 94 740 with the engine replaced about a year and a half ago. Should be a nice, low mile 4.4L. $2300 or offer.

You could grab the engine and part the car for your money back.

Anyway, not affiliated in any way.

The question is: is it an E32 or E38.
E32 was still delivered in spring 1994.
And if it is E32, then the engine is a 4.0 litre engine and not 4.4

94 is a 100% not 4.4L and is the M60B40. Additionally this is probably an E32 as the E38 was released in 1995 and 4.4L did not come into the scene until 1996.

    It's a 4.0L regardless of whether its an E32 or E38.

Originally it was a 4.0L, but when BMW replaces those engines due to issues they put in the 4.4L as a replacement. At least the couple that I've come across.

...BECAUSE IT HAS A NEW ENGINE FROM BMW ABOUT A YEAR IN AND HALF AGO

A '94 is an E32. Funny but the BMW warranty on these was 7-years, so you'd think it would have had to have been done, if warranty paid, by around 2002, not a couple of years ago. Maybe it's a junk-yard engine. I doubt anyone would have paid retail for a new BMW engine and then priced the car that low.

Never saw a 4.4 as replacement for the 4.0L, under warranty, and I saw plenty of replacements!

I've seen two replacements done by BMW from a 4.0 to a 4.4. The latest one was a 95 e38 that had a new 4.4 installed by BMW under warranty. This was a 740 with front end damage that I was going to buy for $2500. This was about a year ago and he said the engine had 20k on it. (he had receipts) If you figure 15K a year that would put the engine replacement somewhere in 2004-05. That's 9 years past the production date.
