Default Does the cylinder head vent hose simply dangle loose at one end?

I have been smelling a mild fuel smell from one of my 1991 525i's and have been unable to locate a leak anywhere. In looking for the leak I found that one of the cylinder head/crankcase ventilation hoses is dangling loose. I can smell gas fumes from the open end of the hose when the engine is running. The hose is connected to the crankcase ventilation hose fitting on the head cover, but the other end is not connected anywhere. I have been unable to find out where to reconnect the loose end of the hose. It doesn't just hang loose to vent the fumes out into the air, does it? This is the thinner of the two hoses. The thicker one is connected on both ends and seems to be running to the air filter box. Where does the thinner hose connect to?

My other 525i is out of town for a week so I can't use it for comparison.

    Thanks,

    Dick Schneiders
