I had the problem some years ago and it took me 4 months to find out the culprit.
That is why I recommended it to him and many others.
Mine started even while driving. I could switch it off, it worked for some time and then it started again flashing.
I had the flasher problem in the M5 - it first occurred when I had it in for service. It took a while to track it down - but yep, the crash control module.
