Default Wanted to share the latest on my engine...

Hey guys I didn't get to post what I got done this weekend because Bimmer.info was down it seemed.

Anyway, the oil pump nut is welded and everything in the bottom end is good to go!

I had issues with tracking down my old hardware - I put everything in labeled bags but the oil form the parts completely ruined the labeling. Rather than sit for hours with a caliper measuring oil old bolts/nuts to see what goes where, I decided to order nearly every single bolt on the engine brand new from this dealer that someone recommended to me online. $80 - $90 later, my parts should be shipped to me this week. I might nickel plate the ones that can be seen, we'll see!

But, here are some pictures to give everyone an idea of how this thing turned out!

I had forgot that the crank pulley was hideous, and the upper timing cover thing had been forgotten in terms of coating... so I did those while at the shop. I chose a "stainless steel gray" for the crank wheel because we didn't have any satin black or gloss black at the time, and I didn't want to do it in silver, needed some contrast:

The valve cover is going to be redone in wrinkle black, the oil filter housing top is wrinlke black and alternator in wrinkle black. It should really make the engine contrast and stand out!

    Thanks for looking!

Looking good... that is one clean build.

Did you find a kit that had all the bolts/etc., or did you have to piece it together from the ETK?

I couldn't find a kit so I just went through each section of RealOEM and observed the bolt part number and quantity and built a shopping card accordingly. It took me maybe 1 - 2 hrs to piece together the list. Some places I ordered one or two extras on stuff I know I usually drop/lose. All in all, I got near everything I could find and then some.

    Dave,

Thanks man - yeah it really is astonishing how clean this has turned out to be. I remember when I bought the motor from Brandon I was saying "I am just going to rebuild it and put it back together." Then, I got the bug. I will probably take the subframe out and do it in black.

Yours looks very nice as well

Holy $hit Jon, I thought I spent enough time cleaning mine up

You better find a girl willing to crawl under that thing once a week to wipe the grime off.

    Nice job, keep it up.

Next thing I know is Jon K putting some neon tube in engine bay to make that engine GLOW! Kinda reminds me of that movie in the 80's... a super slick car in the desert that has superpower to ressurect after massive crash... engine bay was opened to show a geeky guy... was glowing and lighting spark... No one knew the driver until the end.
